As a member of City Light’s Paint Shop Crew, this position will perform skilled painting work in the maintenance and protection of public buildings, bridges, towers, energized high voltage transmission and switching equipment, dams, streetlight stands and other related facilities and equipment for Utility. This position will report to the Structural Painter Crew Chief.

Job Responsibilities

  • Surface preparation and application of paint and other protective coatings in the maintenance and protection of public buildings; facilities; energized high voltage transmission and switching equipment; furniture and equipment; and related facilities.
  • Prepare surfaces by sandblasting, scraping, washing, sanding, filling, and by applying all types of protective coatings to a variety of exterior and interior surfaces.
  • Work at heights exceeding 60 feet.
  • Work with and around toxic chemicals using appropriate Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Rig and work from scaffolding and swing stage apparatus such as power spider staging or other manually or motor-operated swing staging.
  • Work inside and outside in all types of weather.
  • Remove graffiti from City Light buildings and related structures, using chemicals, caustics and abrasives.
  • Organize work, solve medium to complex problems and interact with internal and external clients while managing competing and often inflexible deadlines.
  • Purchase and order supplies and estimate time for repairs and remodels review blueprints and specifications.
  • Operate equipment required to fully execute assigned work.
  • Work requires standing, walking, bending, stooping or crawling for long periods.
  • Considerable physical exertion is required.
  • Required to work around and in energized electrical yards including substations, powerhouses, and dams.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: In addition to the skills and experience mentioned below, a successful applicant will have experience that reflects a commitment to creating fair and equitable outcomes and has:


Education/Experience:
Completion of an approved painter apprenticeship program, including one year of high structural painting experience, is required. This may be substituted by three years of painting experience under the supervision of a qualified journeyman painter, including one year of experience in high structural painting (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).

Certification/License: Current Washington State Driver’s License. Required to have normal color vision.

Desired Qualifications – You will be successful if you have the following experience, skills, and abilities:

  • Three years of high structural painting experience.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite; proficient computer navigation.
  • Experience safely working around and in energized electrical yards, including substations, powerhouses, and dams.
  • Experience with graffiti removal.
  • Experience with drywall (mudding and taping).
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a diverse team.
  • Training and/or certification in confined spaces, fall protection, hazardous spill response, lead abatement, scaffolding, and rigging.
  • Effective in a team setting or alone after receiving oral or written instructions.
  • Demonstrates a continuous learning style
