Duties
As a Supervisory Attorney-Adviser (General), you will:
- Represent DOE in meetings with peers, management and officials of other Federal agencies, committees of Congress, state and local governments, representatives of foreign governments and representatives from industry and outside interest groups to address substantive issues.
- Serve on important intra-agency and interagency task forces and serve as legal adviser on all matters pertaining to litigation.
- Draft legal policies and procedures for use in the DOE in relation to suits from various Courts on behalf of, or against the United States, rising from activities of the DOE
- Decide how cases, matters, companies, or individuals are to be identified for potential investigations; which are to be investigated; which are to be brought as enforcement actions; and which investigations or enforcement actions should be declined.
- Decide how best to conduct investigations and bring them to conclusion and when and where enforcement actions are to be brought. Coordinates and manages cases, including formulating the strategy and developing the total prosecution of the case and its resolution.

- New supervisors/managers are required to serve a one-year probationary period.
- New supervisors are required to complete 80 hours of supervisory training of which 40 hours must be completed during your first year as a supervisor.
- This position is not included in a Bargaining Agreement.
- Occasional travel may be required.
Qualifications
BASIC REQUIREMENTS: All candidates must meet the minimum education requirements of successful completion of a full course of study in a school of law accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA) with a professional law degree (LL.B. or J.D.) and must be a current, active member in good standing of the bar of a state, territory of the United States, District of Columbia, or Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate’s online application and resume must havea professional law degree (LL.B. or J.D.) and active membership in a state or District of Columbia bar and experience with legal issues addressing radiological and hazardous wastes management at federal or other facilities; Experience addressing issues involving the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and other Environmental Statutes to include but not limited to Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA), Clean Water Act (CWA), Clean Air Act (CAA) and Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA); Experience with working with state and federal regulatory agencies to address environmental compliance requirements; Experience working with Native American tribes.
Education
This position has a positive education requirement, transcripts must be provided showing degree conferred, along with proof of Bar Membership, to receive further consideration.
